Is it legal to keep a wild caught turtle as pet in ontario?

I live in niagara region. I've been looking for a turtle in surrounding pet stores but couldn't find what I like. I eventually caught red ear sliders when fishing for carp and found a painted turtle right on the shore. I didn't keep them since they are too big. Personally speaking I love painted turtle but I browsed the official wildlife site and found out it's not legal to capture midland, western painted turtle. Honestly they look the same to me. Here is the question.. is it legal to capture a painted turtle such as southern painted turtle or eastern painted turtle as pet in ontario?
