Need info on toronto canada's front street area?

Hi all and thanks in advance. My daughter and I will be taking the train from niagara falls to toronto next july or august. We have never been. I beleive it lets us off at the union station area on or near front street. I am trying to find a nice modern hotel, clean, for under 200.00 US dollars if possible. Also would like to know good casual restaurants nearby, shopping, pastries, and parks etc. Any and all advice for the area appreciated. Thanks
