What should I tell the Canadian border guards?

I am a U.S. citizen, just got into Canada, about to rent a house to live in for 6 months in niagara falls ontario to play poker here, and then leave Canada in December. My car was searched and I was questioned inside and I said I was coming to play poker and I didn't know where yet that I would be staying or for how long, but no more than 6 months, and they finally let me go. I intend though to cross back and forth across the border many times between now and December. Should I tell the border guards that I have a lease on a house here in Canada that I am living in temporarily each time I cross back over? Or do you think they will not be ok with me renting a house here, and turn me away if I say this?
